Glasgow School of Arts

Founded in 1845, The Glasgow School of Art is Scotland’s only independent art school offering university level programmes and research in architecture, fine art and design. Combining history, architecture and art you will be taken through the full range of the school’s charm. Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired the famous iconic building, and his work is readily displayed. The building is designed to let as much light in as possible, which sets the stage for some amazing views of Glasgow. The school runs an annual public programme of exhibitions and events.

Top Notch
The Glasgow School of Art has housed three recent Turner Prize winners: Simon Starling in 2005, Richard Wright in 2009 and Martin Boyce in 2011. This is a testament to the high level of students and teachers of the school, ranking at the top of specialist visual arts institutions in the UK.

Just like at the University of Glasgow, the tours of the Glasgow School of Art are given by Master students on sight, giving you a very personal, devoted and enthusiastic tour of the building and its many details. With the guided tour you will also get access to rooms closed to the general public like the furniture collection and the library, which are very worthwhile getting a closer look at.
