The Millennium Stadium: a world-class venue

The Millennium Stadium is owned by the Welsh Rugby Union and was completed in 1999. It is the Welsh national rugby and football stadium and was purpose built for the Rugby World Cup in 1999. With a crowd capacity of 74.500, the atmosphere here is electric on match days. This world-class venue, with its retractable roof ideal for those rainy days, has become one of the city’s favourite icons.

A world-class sport and entertainment venue
The largest annual event that takes place at the stadium is the Six Nations Rugby Championship when Wales plays Scotland, England, Ireland, France and Italy to compete for the tournament trophy, one which Wales have won many times. During match days, the city of Cardiff is buzzing in anticipation and celebration regardless of the result. National rugby union and football games are played at this multi-purpose venue. The stadium often makes the incredible transformation into a world-class entertainment arena and is ideal for concerts. Over time, it has set the stage for spectacular performances from Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and Rihanna to name a few. The venue is also an exclusive and professional conference facility whether you are organising or attending a ball, meeting or exhibition.

Learn more on a guided tour

The tour will take you into the Dragon’s Lair: the dressing room of the Welsh national team. You will also visit the press suite, players’ tunnel and VIP suites whilst learning about the history and entertaining tales of your favourite players.

The Millennium Stadium is located near the heart of the city and is easily reached by public transport from the Park Inn by Radisson Cardiff North Hotel. Make this your base on match days or when attending an event and enjoy your trip the Welsh capital.
