Wrest Park

Many people dream of strolling though an English country garden but from the Park Inn by Radisson Bedford, this dream can quickly become a reality. The pristine 90 acre landscaped gardens of Wrest Park should be on your 'to do' list when visiting the area. Just 18km from the hotel, it is the perfect place to become acquainted with rural England.

A country mansion

No garden would be complete without a mansion standing proudly in the heart of it. The current Wrest House dates back to 1834, built by Thomas, 2nd Earl de Grey. The site actually dates back further to 1639 where there are records of the original house. The vision was to establish a French style within the house, evident from the furnishings and paintings that are in place to this day.

18th Century Gardens

In the park's early years, the regal gardens were landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. From his vision, he created man-made lakes and natural woodlands. The expansive park offers over 40 statues, a marble fountain, bathhouse, bowling green house and a Chinese temple. The park is full of walkways and trails to follow. Heighten your senses as you pass beautiful scented flowerbeds and perfectly manicured lawns. The gardens not only represent English heritage but also pay tribute to French, Italian and Dutch designs, so the displays are varied as you browse each section.

Fun for all the family

The park is as interesting for the kids as it is for adults. On entry, pick up an activity backpack with a specially designed audio trail for children to follow. Watch as they learn to appreciate the gardens in their own way. The park is the perfect place for family picnics or lunch in the cafe, and then if there is time left over, the play park is the ideal end to the day.
