The Hammersmith Apollo

The Hammersmith Apollo is an Art Deco events venue in London. It occupies a special place not just in the London music scene, but globally, as well. The venue has proved popular with a diverse range of famous artists over the years, including the likes of Bob Dylan, Elton John, Iron Maiden and Morrissey. Experience a gig there, and be a part of music history.

The building itself is Grade II listed, and built in an Art Deco style. It still contains an original Compton pipe organ dating to 1932, which has recently been restored to working condition. Even if you ‘re not planning on catching a gig, be sure to make the short journey from the Park Inn Hotel & Conference Centre London Heathrow to stop by to take a look.

A celebrated venue

The Hammersmith Apollo has played a major part in the musical history of the world, with British and international acts performing or recording concerts at the venue. From early pop and jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington to the explosion of rock music in the 60s and 70s, the music world's biggest names have all passed through the Hammersmith Apollo.

The venue continued to be a hallmark of popular culture throughout the following decades, and it was even used for huge productions such as The Who's Quadrophenia, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust film and Motorhead's No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith.

It's also a popular stop for comedians on tour, with Billy Connolly and Michael McIntyre amongst the big names who have appeared here. The venue is also the setting for the popular BBC stand-up comedy show, Live at the Apollo, which has featured many well-known and up-and-coming comedians over the years.

Artists of note

The venue has played host to iconic gigs from musicians as diverse as Johnny Cash and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Influential artists and groups such as David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Kylie Minogue have famously released live CDs, videos or DVDs of concerts they have played there.

Hammersmith Apollo hasn't slowed down in the 21st century either, as it continues to host a veritable who's-who of the rock world, standout comedians and more.
